The 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting of Assemblies of God, Ghana, was held from 18th to 22nd August 2026 at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh, under the theme, “The Faith of Our Fathers: For Authenticity and Greater Exploits”, with Hebrews 11 and John 14:12 as the key biblical texts.

The meeting was chaired and hosted by the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, and brought together pastors, delegates, leaders, and representatives from across the Church for a significant week of worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, deliberations, celebration, and spiritual renewal.

A CALL TO WALK IN THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS

The theme of the Council meeting called the Church to return to the biblical foundations and spiritual heritage handed down by the fathers of the faith while pursuing greater exploits in the present generation.

The opening sessions were characterised by vibrant praise and worship, with delegates lifting their voices in thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to Assemblies of God, Ghana. The Church also spent significant time in intense prayer and intercession, reinforcing its identity as a praying Church and seeking God’s direction for the future.

The Council was repeatedly reminded that the faith of the fathers must not remain merely a historical inheritance but must become a living faith demonstrated through holy living, prayer, evangelism, church planting, leadership, and greater Kingdom impact.

POWERFUL MINISTRY OF THE WORD

The Council featured powerful ministry from renowned speakers, including the main speaker, Rev. Gregg T. Johnson, Assistant District Superintendent of the New York Ministry Network of Assemblies of God, USA.

Rev. Johnson ministered extensively on the theme of the Council and challenged the Church to remain authentic to its biblical and Pentecostal heritage while pursuing greater exploits for God.

Other speakers included Dr. Mensa Otabil and Bishop Emmanuel Nterful, whose ministry focused on critical areas of the Church’s growth and development.

Bishop Nterful taught on church growth and generously presented copies of his book to pastors present at the Council.

The ministry of the speakers, together with the corporate times of worship and prayer, contributed to a spiritually enriching Council experience.

PRESIDENT MAHAMA ADDRESSES THE COUNCIL

A major highlight of the meeting was the presence of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.

In his address, the President expressed appreciation to Assemblies of God, Ghana, for its contribution to the spiritual and social development of the nation. He also acknowledged the role of the Church in nation-building and encouraged continued commitment to faith and service.

President Mahama also highlighted Ghana’s historic role as the first African country to host the World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress and expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to welcome delegates from across the world with its renowned hospitality.

The President’s presence added significance to the Council meeting and underscored the important relationship between the Church and the nation.

A NIGHT OF REMEMBRANCE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

One of the memorable moments of the Council was the Night of Remembrance, which provided an opportunity for the Church to celebrate its heritage and honour the legacy of its forefathers.

Delegates celebrated Ghanaian culture through traditional attire, music, dance, and expressions of gratitude for the faith and sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for the Church.

The General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Wengam, and his wife, Lady Mrs. Monica Wengam, also joined the celebration in beautiful Ghanaian Kente attire.

The night was a joyful celebration of faith, culture, heritage, and God’s faithfulness through the generations.

## CELEBRATING CHURCH PLANTING AND KINGDOM IMPACT

The Council also celebrated ministers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Great Commission, particularly in the area of church planting.

Rev. Aaron Lambon Fant was recognised as the winner of the Pauline MM33 Church Planter Award, the highest church planting recognition highlighted during the Council.

The recognition served as an encouragement to ministers across the Church to remain committed to planting churches, reaching communities, and expanding the Kingdom of God.

RE-ELECTION OF THE GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

A major outcome of the 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting was the re-election of Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam as General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana.

Following his re-election, Rev. Wengam delivered an acceptance speech in which he expressed gratitude to God and to the Church for the renewed mandate.

His re-election represents a renewed call to continue providing visionary leadership as the Church pursues its transformation agenda and prepares for greater exploits in the years ahead.

NEW EXECUTIVE PRESBYTERY OFFICERS ELECTED

The Council also elected three new Executive Presbytery Officers to serve alongside the General Superintendent.

They are:

* Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Boateng Bempah – Assistant General Superintendent
* Rev. Dr. Albert Anane – General Secretary
* Rev. Dr. Simon Abu Baba – General Treasurer

Together with the General Superintendent, the newly elected Executive Presbytery constitutes the leadership team charged with guiding the affairs of Assemblies of God, Ghana.

The election marked the beginning of a new chapter of leadership for the Church, with a renewed emphasis on shifting, growing, and transforming to another level.

A CHURCH THAT PRAYS

Prayer remained a defining feature of the Council throughout the five-day gathering.

From the opening sessions to the evening meetings, delegates repeatedly gathered in fervent prayer, interceding for the Church, the nation, its leadership, the upcoming World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress, the Centenary City Project, revival, and the fulfilment of God’s purposes for Assemblies of God, Ghana.

The intensity of the prayer sessions reflected the Church’s conviction that prayer remains one of its greatest spiritual advantages.

A CELEBRATION OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

The Council was not only a time for deliberations and leadership decisions but also a celebration of God’s faithfulness to Assemblies of God, Ghana.

Delegates danced, sang, worshipped, and gave thanks for how far the Lord has brought the Church. The atmosphere throughout the meeting reflected gratitude for the heritage received from previous generations and faith for what God is yet to accomplish.

The theme, “The Faith of Our Fathers: For Authenticity and Greater Exploits,” therefore became more than a slogan. It served as a call for the present generation to preserve the biblical and Pentecostal heritage of the Church while stepping into greater Kingdom exploits.

LOOKING AHEAD

As the 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting came to a close, the Church looked ahead with renewed confidence and expectation.

With the re-election of the General Superintendent and the election of a new Executive Presbytery, Assemblies of God, Ghana enters a new season of leadership and ministry.

The Church continues to pursue its transformation agenda while preparing for major milestones, including the World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, and the Centenary celebrations of Assemblies of God, Ghana, in 2031.

The 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting will be remembered as a significant gathering of prayer, worship, teaching, cultural celebration, leadership transition, and renewed commitment to the faith of our fathers.

As the Church moves forward, one commitment remains clear:

We will walk in the faith of our fathers. We will remain authentic to our biblical heritage. And by the grace of God, we will accomplish greater exploits for His glory.
